École David Thompson Weekly Update | A Community of Excellence

Weekly Update – October 30| Message de la semaine – le 30 octobre

“It is what you do from now on that will either move our civilization forward a few tiny steps, or else... begin to march us steadily backwards.” | « C’est ce que vous ferez, à partir de maintenant, qui permettra soit de faire progresser notre civilisation de quelques minuscules pas, soit, au contraire... d’amorcer un recul constant. » Patrick Stewart

Bonjour, Tiger Families!

Is it just me, or does the school year seem to move faster every year? One minute we're settling into September, and the next we're seeing Christmas ads and thinking, "Already? It's not even Halloween!" But then the snow starts falling, and suddenly it doesn't seem quite so early after all. Somehow, November is already upon us!

Congratulations to both our boys' and girls' soccer teams for bringing home their divisional championships! We are so proud of their teamwork and determination. Our Halloween costume contest also brought plenty of creativity and school spirit to our hallways. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the We Scare Hunger Food Drive in support of the Veterans Food Bank. It is wonderful to see our students putting kindness and leadership into action! Halloween offers a fun opportunity to learn about traditions. Did you know that Halloween has roots in the ancient Irish festival of Samhain and that the original jack-o'-lanterns were carved from turnips, not pumpkins? It's a great reminder that our traditions all have stories worth sharing

Looking ahead to the winter season, we have been generously gifted some winter hampers by a local church community. If your family would appreciate a little extra support this season, please email me directly and confidentially at kmmunroe@cbe.ab.ca, and I'll happily add you to our list. We can also nominate families for the Magic of Christmas, a wonderful Calgary initiative that brings a little extra joy to the holiday season. Please don't hesitate to reach out, we hope it helps you let go of some stress and make room to enjoy the moments that matter.

A little homework for families this weekend: Ask your child what is one tradition, celebration or family memory they especially enjoy, and why. It might be something you celebrate every year or something entirely your own. Sharing our stories helps us understand one another and reminds us that belonging doesn't require us all to be the same. Whether you're celebrating Halloween, preparing for winter holidays or simply enjoying time together, I hope you find some real delight in whatever traditions matter to your family.

Thank you to our families, volunteers and tireless educators for helping make David Thompson a community where everyone belongs.

Prenez soin de vous et bon week-end!

Warmly,

The David Thompson School Team
