High School Programs and Registration Information
Grade 9 Families
Welcome to the Grade 9 High School Registration page. Here, you'll find key information and resources about the registration process. David Thompson staff register students for their designated high school based on their current address. The transition to high school begins months in advance. To support a smooth transition, we work closely with designated high schools to arrange orientation visits, share program options, and complete registration. Parents can support this process by attending open houses and helping their child select courses that best support their learning path. For the most up-to-date information, please visit individual high school websites. As dates are confirmed, they will also be posted on CBE's main Events, Sessions and Open House page.
High School Planning Guide
This guide provides key information about high school registration, completion requirements, course planning and programs. Please refer to the Related Information section.
Designated High School
At the CBE, when you are transitioning from middle school to high school, students are automatically registered at their designated school based on the home address on file. Use the CBE Find a School tool to confirm your designated high school. This is the most accurate way to determine your child’s designated high school.
French Immersion Program
Most students in the French Bilingual Program are designated to Dr. E.P. Scarlett in high school. A small number of students may be designated to Western Canada High School based on their home address. Families choosing to switch to the English Program should note that their designated high school may change.
English Program
Most students in the English Program are designated to Lord Beaverbrook. Depending on the home address, some students may be designated to other schools.

High School Transfer Process
The High School Transfer Process opens from February 1 to March 15. See the links below.
- Transferring Between CBE Schools
- High school enrolment status for transfers
- AR 6090 (Child and Student Registration and Admission)
- AR 6091 School Transfers
School Enrolment Status:
If you are interested in attending a school other than your designated school, visit CBE's Transfers page for transfer information. Please note that some schools are quite full and not able to accept all transfer requests.
If you are interested in an alternative program, please be aware of the application process and different deadlines. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at 403-777-7470. Students and parents are encouraged to visit school websites and open houses for more information. Before transfers can be accepted, CBE high schools need to ensure enough spaces for students living in the communities designated to each school. In some cases, transfers are not possible.
Schools are identified as:
- OPEN: The most spaces available to accept transfers.
- LIMITED: Some space available to accept transfers from students resident to CBE.
- CLOSED: No space to accept transfers. The only exception is IB Program transfers where the school is the student's Area school for IB, and the student is resident to CBE.
A parent/legal guardian can request for a student to transfer to another CBE high school for the next school year for one of the following reasons:
- To enrol in an education program NOT offered at the student's designated school (e.g. International Baccalaureate (IB) Program or Advanced Placement (AP); CBe-learn)
- To take a sequence of courses up to the 30-level that is NOT offered at the student's designated school (e.g. cosmetology, welding and fabrication, culinary arts, and auto mechanics).
You can only choose one program, or one sequence of courses, as the reason for your transfer request. Enrolment depends on availability and school status.
