Hello Tiger Families!
As another school year comes to a close, we want to thank you for being such an important part of our David Thompson community. Our final week was filled with memorable moments, from Wakefield Brewster's visit to exciting field trips and, of course, our Grade 9 farewell celebration. We are grateful to our dedicated staff and to all of our families for your partnership and support throughout the year. Every success our students achieve is made possible through the strong community we build together.
Whether you're staying close to home or heading off on an adventure, we hope your summer is filled with rest, laughter, and time with family and friends.
Looking ahead to September:
- Students return to school on Monday, August 31, at 8:05 a.m.
- Homeroom lists for Grade 6, 8 & 9 will be posted when students arrive.
- Grade 5 and Grade 7 students will begin the day in the main gym, where they will meet their homeroom teachers.
- School supply lists are available on our Back-to-School page.
Summer is also a wonderful time to keep learning in simple, meaningful ways. Here are some ideas to help you on your way.
- Math: Make your thinking visible. Invite your child into everyday problem-solving by estimating travel times, comparing prices, calculating discounts, planning a budget, or measuring for a home project.
- Reading: Visit your local library or bookstore and encourage your child to choose books that genuinely interest them. Reading for enjoyment is one of the best ways to build literacy, regardless of the topic. Many websites allow you to “look inside,” which allows kids to check the level of French and gauge how interesting it is to them. Chapters allows you to filter searches by grade for French Immersion books.
- Wellness: Unplug whenever possible. Spend time outdoors, be active, explore nature, and enjoy moments together away from screens, especially social media.
Thank you again for a wonderful first year together. It has been a privilege to learn and grow alongside our students and families. Have a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September.
See you in the fall!

Grade 9 Farewell
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Grade 9 Farewell a memorable celebration. We captured many wonderful moments throughout the day from watching students walk the stage to coming together in community with a potluck! If you would like access to photos from the Grade 9 Farewell, please send an email to kmmunroe@cbe.ab.ca with your email so we can share google folder access. We will be happy to share the photo album with Grade 9 families upon request. Congratulations once again to our Grade 9 students! We wish them every success as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey!

About the Trip:
This is a 5-day (Monday to Friday) off-site activity where students live, eat, sleep, on a 70 ft tall ship while learning to sail in the Lower Gulf Islands near Victoria, BC. SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society) are the service provider. Students learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and grit, while also developing a greater understanding of the natural world as they explore the Gulf Islands – marine ecosystems, local Indigenous history, environmental issues and sustainability.
The approximate cost of this trip would be $2500. This fee covers the cost of flights, transportation, accommodations, and food during the trip. You can find more information on group sails at www.salts.ca.
