Walking Trips

The CBE values the educational benefit of field trips. Field trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to explore the community around their school.

Please be advised the process for trips within walking distance of the school has been simplified, excluding restricted activities, e.g. swimming. As parents/guardians, you will no longer need to fill out a consent form for your child to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school, e.g. to a local park. Appropriate walking distance is determined by the principal and may vary, depending on the age of the students.

 Teachers will provide at least 48 hours’ notice when planning a trip to a local site. You will be notified about these trips by email, teacher blog or letter.

The following is a list of trips that are near the school that teachers may use to complement classroom learning:

  • Acadia School (200m)
  • Acadia Aquatic and Fitness Centre (700m)
  • Lord Beaverbrook High School (700m)
  • Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre (800m)
  • Toppler Bowling (2 kms)
  • Trico Centre (2.4kms)
  • Francis Klein Center (450m)
  • Carburn Park (3.9 kms)

As with any field trip, we want to inform you about some common hazards involved with walking trips to the above locations. Please note this list may not include all of

  • the hazards for a given trip:
  • Slips, trips and falls;
  • Getting separated from the group;
  • Street crossings;
  • Pre-existing medical conditions and/or allergies
  • Exposure to infectious diseases (eg. COVID-19 virus, SARS, MERS, influenza)

If you have any questions regarding field trips within walking distance of the school,

please contact Mr. Keuben or your child’s teacher.

School Council and Parent Society Meetings

The first school council and parent society meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, beginning at 6:00 pm. Please note the new time. These meetings will be held in person at David Thompson School in the learning commons. We hope to see you there.

Science Safety Contracts: Grades 7-9

Many students say that doing labs is their favourite part of Science! In order to ensure that students have these rich hands on opportunities in their classes, students in Grade 7 thru 9 are required to complete annual instruction in science lab safety at the beginning of the year and sign a Lab Safety Contract. Students should have completed and returned these forms to their teachers on or before Thursday Sept 21. Please check PowerSchool to ensure your student has returned their form.
