Take Our Kids to Work Day - Grade 9
Take Our Kids to Work Day is Nov 1, 2023 for Grade 9 students. An information email was sent home to families of Grade 9 students with further instructions and a form to complete and return to school. Those students who opt to remain at school will participate in related workshops lead by DTS staff. Questions or concerns may be directed to Ben Beaudoin at bbbeaudoin@cbe.ab.ca
Online CBE Forms
A message was sent during the week of September 4th regarding a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. You are receiving this message as a friendly reminder to complete the required online forms in SchoolEngage:
▪ Demographic Verification - 2023-24 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
▪ Citizenship Information Update - 2023-24 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
▪ Annual Authorization - 2023-24 – Combines the following forms:
▪ School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
▪ Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
▪ Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties.
SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
Junior Boys Basketball Season
The Junior Boys’ Basketball Team has started off strong with a 3-1 record, beating Lakeshore, MidSun, and Dr. George Stanley after losing their home opener to Mountain Park. They played hard in a tournament on October 13th and 14th at Captain Nichola Goddard School, finishing in 3rd place with a couple of free throws to secure their final game of the weekend.
Boys and Girls Soccer Seasons
Congratulations to the boy’s soccer team, who finished their season strong with a couple of big wins!
Congratulations, also, to the girl’s soccer team who are their division champions with an undefeated season. It was a pleasure to see them playing having players from grade 6-9. I wish good luck in high school to our grade 9 girls who played their last game of soccer as a Tiger last week! I also want to thank parents that came to cheer them on. Félicitations les filles! Monsieur Beaudoin, Coach
Halloween
Students of David Thompson School will have the opportunity to participate in Halloween activities on October 31. Students are welcome to come to school wearing their costumes, donning an orange and black outfit, wearing their pyjamas, or come dressed in their regular clothing. There are some parameters around costumes we would like students and caregivers to follow:
- Avoid excessive gore
- Weapons of any kind are not permitted
- No masks
- Please use discretion when choosing attire, remembering the school environment includes students with varying sensitivities
- Ensure costumes are bathroom friendly and easy to get into and out of
- Ensure costumes allow for safe and easy movement at school and will not interfere with your child's ability to participate in regular class work and in gym class.
In the afternoon, students will be able to choose between attending the dance or take part in a number of alternate, teacher-run activities.
