Hello Tiger Families!
As we approach Remembrance Day, we take time to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served to protect our freedoms. Their courage reminds us of the importance of unity, compassion, and working together for a better tomorrow. Lest we forget.
In that same spirit of reflection and gratitude, we also extend heartfelt thanks to our partners, your continued collaboration and trust make our shared goals possible. Together, we’re building something meaningful that is grounded in respect and purpose.
With Fall Break on the horizon, we hope everyone takes this opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones. Let’s return refreshed and ready to continue the important work we do together.
Wishing you a peaceful Remembrance Day and a restorative Fall Break.
Warmly,
The David Thompson School Team

Field trips within walking distance
The CBE recognizes the educational value of field trips in supporting classroom learning. Local trips within walking distance provide students with meaningful opportunities to explore and connect with their community. Please note that the process for trips within walking distance (excluding restricted activities such as swimming) has been simplified. Caregivers will no longer need to complete a consent form for these outings. The Principal determines what constitutes an appropriate walking distance, which may vary by age group.
Teachers will provide at least 48 hours’ notice before a local trip and will notify you by email.
Name of location | Address / Description | Distance from school (kms) |
|
| 2 kms |
As with any field trip, we want to inform you about some common hazards involved with walking trips to the above locations. Please note this list may not include all of the hazards for a given trip:
- Slips, trips and falls;
- Getting separated from the group;
- Street crossings;
- Pre-existing medical conditions and/or allergies;
- Exposure to infectious diseases (e.g. COVID-19 virus, SARS, MERS, influenza).
If you have any questions regarding field trips within walking distance of the school, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

ENGLISH VERSION WILL FOLLOW
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PROJECT’’ https://thehappybirthdayproject.org/
Toutes activités a toujours un cote pédagogique.

Last year, in 2024, our Grade 6 students collected 2,000 candies for the “Happy Birthday Project.”
This year, in 2025:
· The Grade 6 students collected a total of 2,531 candies.
· The Grade 7–8–9 students collected a total of 1,807 candies.
Therefore, David Thompson School collected a grand total of 4,338 candies in 2025 for the “Happy Birthday Project.” https://thehappybirthdayproject.org/
During a math period today, we counted and organized the candies into 8 categories, as requested by the organization.
The students chose their own methods for counting and organizing everything. Some methods worked well, while others caused a bit of confusion—but all of them allowed the students to learn and make progress together. Some classes even selected leaders to make the task possible. They divided responsibilities and adapted to the circumstances. They did an excellent job and showed great initiative.
Next week, a follow-up math activity will allow us to continue this learning experience. We will compare our results and create statistics (graphs, data comparisons, etc.).
Every activity always has a pedagogical purpose.
