Hello Tiger Families!
Did we even have a long weekend? We packed so much in this week we barely missed Monday because on Tuesday our hallways quickly filled back up with the joyful buzz of learning and connection. One highlight this week was watching our talented musicians represent our school with confidence and pride at the ABA Band Festival. Their performances reflected not only skill, but leadership and teamwork. Another was, our Grade 6 students during their cross-curricular trip to the public library, where they found out interesting things about David Thompson’s mapping efforts and made rich connections between literacy, research, and real-world learning. Thank you to all the volunteers who made that possible!
Looking ahead, students will begin writing Provincial Achievement Tests. We know that these assessments can bring some nerves, so a gentle reminder: what matters most is your child’s effort, not perfection. A good night’s sleep, nutritious meals, and words of encouragement go a long way in helping them feel ready and supported.
You can support a learning focus at home by pointing out thinking. When your child shares an idea, let them know you notice their thinking. Try “That’s an interesting idea I hadn’t thought of before” or “I like how you made that connection.” Together, we continue to shape the kind of school we all want to learn in. A school where every student has a voice, learns with purpose, and belongs.
With gratitude,
The David Thompson School Team

Riding the Bus: Respect, Safety, and Speaking Up
Our school bus is an extension of our learning community, and we expect students to show the same respect and responsibility on the ride as they do in the classroom. That means staying seated, keeping hands to yourself, and using kind language. If you see something that doesn't feel right, we count on you to speak up. Remind your friends to make good choices, and if something doesn't feel right, let the bus driver know right away or tell your teacher as soon as you get to school. It’s one of the ways we look out for each other and keep everyone safe.
Next Year School Transfers
Unfortunately, we are aware that some students may not be returning to our wonderful school. Your students will be missed, and we understand that circumstances change. To coordinate with your students' future school please inform us. ASAP. @ scmcintyre@cbe.ab.ca Only if your student isn’t going to be attending David Thompson in the fall of 2025.
Thank you kindly, by emailing us your next designated school.
Grade 6 Field Trip to Central Library and City Hall:
Grade 6 students got to experience seeing their learning in person at the Central Library and City Hall.
At the incredible Central Library, students explored all levels of the library, with time to: read and take out a book, learn about the Calgary of yore, discover indigenous art and history, and engage with learning spaces designed by the library.
At City Hall, students explored inside and out and particularly enjoyed the Lego model of City Hall. Students learned about the history of Calgary, the coat of arms, got to see council chambers up close, connect with memorials to first responders and thought about the importance of the Indian Residential School Memorial Project.
There were lively bilingual conversations, as students completed their bilingual, teacher prepared guide, and lots of questions and observations about the spaces and the world around them.
Thank you so much to the parent volunteers who came with us, you are amazing, and without you, we can't make a trip like this happen. Moreover, your support and smiles pull our David Thompson community closer together.
Always with kindness,
Kimberly Collins (she, her)
French Immersion Teacher & Learning Leader
