Quote: We do not remember days, we remember moments. - Cesare Pavese
Hello Tiger Families!
What a week it has been at David Thompson! From zoo field trips and badminton tournaments to marking Red Dress and Hats-On for Mental Health days, our students have been learning and celebrating in so many ways. This week, we celebrate students on the SALTS trip and look forward to the Grade 8 Outdoor Education camp, and the Grade 8-9 Band Festival. What an amazing way to learn beyond the classroom! We're grateful to the tireless educators and families for making these experiential adventures possible. As we head into our final seven weeks, we want you to know we see the energy of May and June. The weather is beautiful, students are energized by spring activities and sports, and the sun stays out well past 8:30 pm. These wonderful things also bring changes to routines, bedtimes, and energy levels. We know that anticipation about the end of year and summer can add stress on top of it all. Thank you for helping your students navigate these days.
A note on learning at home: Provincial Achievement Tests begin in two weeks, with writing as our first assessment. We encourage you to support reflection at home. When students journal about their experiences, they're not just capturing memories, they're building the writing fluency that will serve them in PATs and beyond. Even 10 minutes of daily writing helps build clarity and confidence on the page.
Warmly,
The David Thompson School Team

Happenings
Grade 9 Field Trip Poll
The Verdict at Vertigo Theatre show has been extended to give students a richer theatrical experience, which means bus dismissal would shift to approximately 2:30 pm and return to school around 3 pm that day. Before we finalize our plans, we want to hear from Grade 9 families. If you have a student in Grade 9, please take a moment to respond to this quick poll about transportation so we can ensure every student has a smooth path home that afternoon. Grade 9 June 3rd Matinee Transportation Poll.
Last call for Freezie Donations!
The Grade 9 Farewell committee is asking for donations of jumbo freezies to sell as a fundraiser for our year-end celebration. If you are able, please bring frozen freezies to the school by May 07. Thank you for your support!

Bottle Drive Fundraiser
David Thompson School is hosting a bottle drive to help fundraise, this year’s Grade 9 Farewell! Families are invited to support by dropping off their bottles at either the Chinook Bottle Depot or the South Pointe Bottle Depot. Simply let the depot know you are donating to “DT School Graduation Committee”, and the funds will go directly toward the farewell planning committee.
The bottle drive is running now until May 25. Thank you for helping make this a memorable celebration for our Grade 9 students!

Parent Info Sessions
Parenting isn’t always easy - especially when it comes to talking to your kids about friendships, dating, and boundaries.
That’s why Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence at the University of Calgary created ConnectED Parents – a free text message program that sends parents and caregivers practical tips to help young people aged 6–20 build healthy, respectful relationships. We have already reached 300 parents across Canada and just opened registration for our sixth cohort.
Starting in June 2026, participants will get 2–3 short texts each week with tips, tools, and ideas you can use right away. Over 6-7 months, you’ll get about 70 messages to help you:
✔️ Start open, honest conversations about relationships and dating
✔️ Feel more confident connecting with your child
✔️ Support healthy relationships early and prevent teen dating violence
