David Thompson Newsletters are always available on our website

Dear David Thompson Families,

This week, our halls and classrooms were alive with the energy of learning in motion. From students on outdoor field studies at Carburn Park, The Zoo, Climbing, Bowling, Tennis and Banff to sharing powerful reflections of growth during our Celebration of Learning day, we saw voice in action—confidence, empathy, and leadership growing strong in both our French Immersion and English programs. And thank you to parents and staff for all you did to make this week magical!

We also celebrated our Grade 9s this week as they prepare to take their next steps. Their Farewell ceremony and individual achievements reminded us of the strength of a caring community that cheers each other on.

As we head into summer, we invite you to keep the spirit of learning alive at home by encouraging curiosity, sharing stories, and enjoying time together. Your support helps us build the school we all want to learn in together.

Thank you for walking alongside us this year. Wishing you a summer full of joy, rest, and connection.

Warmly,

The David Thompson School Team

PAT Results

Our Grade 6 and Grade 9 students recently completed Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). These province-wide assessments are developed and overseen by Alberta Education. As required, schools are expected to share students’ preliminary PAT results with parents/guardians. A printed copy of preliminary PAT results was sent home with students at David Thompson in Grade 6 and Grade 9 this week. It is important to note that until these results are reviewed and completed by Alberta Education, they are considered unofficial and subject to change. In the fall, you will receive a copy of your child’s Individual Student Profile (ISP), which represents the official PAT results.

Provincial assessments and report card data are valuable information on your child’s progress, they measure different aspects of student achievement. Provincial assessments evaluate achievement at a specific point in time, focusing on particular aspects of that curriculum, whereas report card data typically reflects a broad summary of achievement across an entire curricular subject area.

These unofficial PAT results do not affect overall report card outcomes and do not determine final achievement levels like “acceptable” or “excellent” — that official information will be shared through the ISP that you will receive in the fall.

Please note, this year’s Grade 6 Math PAT reflects a new curriculum that is being assessed for the first time.

We encourage families to access MyCBE to review your child’s report card and teacher comments to get the full picture of how your child is doing in school.

If your child was away when David Thompson handed out preliminary results, you can access preliminary PAT results online. Please create an account using the same email that is registered with the school from the following link: https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/mypass/welcome. To view a tutorial on how to create your account, please click here. Alberta Education will send finalized PAT results at the end of August.

they can be viewed at your child’s my pass account by following these steps:

  • Login to myPass to view and print PAT result statements.
  • BEFORE YOU SIGN UP:
  • 1. Make sure that the school has the correct address on file.
  • 2. Get your Alberta Student Number ready (students used this number to write their exams).
  • Go to myPass.alberta.ca.
  • Set up an Education Account or sign in with social login (not school email address).
  • You must use your legal name.
  • Enter your Alberta Student Number and date of birth.
  • You will be sent two things – an email with a URL and a physical letter with a 4 digit PIN. This PIN will expire so set up your account immediately.
  • Once you receive both the email and the letter, go to the URL contained in the email and input the 4-digit PIN.
