David Thompson Newsletters are always available on our website

Dear David Thompson Families,

As we head into the final stretch of June, our school is alive with learning, leadership, and celebration. This week, students explored art and culture through mural painting, and orienteering field studies, while others demonstrated empathy and teamwork during our activity days, lots of students got Kona Ice and today we had a beautiful Indigenous Cooperative Learning Day planned by student. Whether your child learns in English or French, they are part of a rich, diverse learning environment where students collaborate, share ideas, and grow together.

We’re also proud of the way students approached their final assessments. PATs and in-class finals were used as tools for reflection and growth, not just grades. In fact, for our students, results only improved their final marks. Here’s what’s ahead as we wrap up the year

  • June 25: Grade 9 Celebration. We’re excited to celebrate our Grade 9s on June 25 as they complete their middle school journey. Many have been learning side by side in the French Immersion program for nine years, growing not only in language, but in leadership, kindness, and confidence. All of our Grade 9 students have worked hard, supported one another, and left their mark on our school community. Thank you to our Grade 9 families for your care and partnership in making this day meaningful for your children—it’s a celebration well-earned.
  • June 26 (Thursday running on Friday schedule, buses arrive at noon):
  • 9:30 am – Learning Celebration Assembly for Grades 5 and 6
  • 10:45 am – Learning Celebration Assembly for Grades 7 and 8

Looking forward to a wonderful last week of learning together.

Warmly,

The David Thompson School Team

SALTS 2026 Interest Survey

Grade 9 students at David Thompson have the unique opportunity to participate in a 5-day sailing trip aboard a tall ship in the Lower Gulf Islands off the coast of Victoria BC. We are looking to gauge interest in this opportunity in the spring of 2026.

About the trip: This is a 5 day (Monday to Friday) off-site activity where students live, eat, sleep, on a 70 ft tall ship while learning to sail in the Lower Gulf Islands near Victoria, BC.  SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society) are the service provider. Students learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and grit, while also developing a greater understanding of the natural world as they explore the Gulf Islands – marine ecosystems, local Indigenous history, environmental issues and sustainability.

The approximate cost of this trip would be $2500.  This fee covers the cost of flights, transportation, accommodations and food during the trip. You can find more information on group sails at www.salts.ca

Current grade 8 families, please fill out this survey to indicate your interest https://forms.office.com/r/mqM1rR6e5P
