David Thompson Newsletters are always available on our website

Dear David Thompson Families,

We didn’t think it was possible to top the excitement and meaningful learning of the past few weeks, but here we are! From our Outdoor Education students braving the wilderness with confidence and teamwork, to our Grade 8s learning through laughter and performance at Legally Blonde, and students showing stamina and focus during PATs, as well as all the wonderful experiences that teachers provide on the daily, our Tigers are living out the values of David Thompson School each day.

We’re especially proud of how our students are building their understanding both in and out of the classroom. A great study tip at home is the “teach-back” method. Ask your child to explain what they learned. If they can teach it, they truly understand it. And if you are looking for an enrichment tactic, try asking not just what they learned, but what questions they still have. Then explore those wonderings together!

Quick reminder: Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) were sent home on Tuesday in sealed envelopes. These documents capture your child’s growth and next steps. Please take a moment to review and return the signed page to the school office by June 16.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s finish strong and keep cheering on our amazing students.

Warmly,

The David Thompson School Team

SALTS 2026 Interest Survey

Grade 9 students at David Thompson have the unique opportunity to participate in a 5-day sailing trip aboard a tall ship in the Lower Gulf Islands off the coast of Victoria BC. We are looking to gauge interest in this opportunity in the spring of 2026.

About the trip: This is a 5 day (Monday to Friday) off-site activity where students live, eat, sleep, on a 70 ft tall ship while learning to sail in the Lower Gulf Islands near Victoria, BC.  SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society) are the service provider. Students learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and grit, while also developing a greater understanding of the natural world as they explore the Gulf Islands – marine ecosystems, local Indigenous history, environmental issues and sustainability.

The approximate cost of this trip would be $2500.  This fee covers the cost of flights, transportation, accommodations and food during the trip. You can find more information on group sails at www.salts.ca

Current grade 8 families, please fill out this survey to indicate your interest https://forms.office.com/r/mqM1rR6e5P
