Hello Tiger Families!

Dear David Thompson Families,

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we’re inspired by the leadership and engagement we see in our classrooms and beyond. This week, Tigers won an overall second place at the track field meet (which means whole lot of winning gold, silver and bronze), students shone on stage in No Substitutes, and during the Year End Band Concert, we welcomed next year’s Tigers with engaging school tours, Grade 5s explored Carburn Park, and we celebrated school-wide creativity at our Fine Arts Night. The week was a beautiful showcase of student voice, talent, and community spirit. We are grateful for the way our dual-track community, both French Immersion and English programs, come together to support student success in all areas.

As part of year-end preparations, PowerSchool Grades have been temporarily disabled, with online report cards available from June 25 to July 25. Now, with final projects and exams underway, we encourage families to help students stay organized by checking review materials, reinforcing study habits, completing any unfinished assignments, and celebrating small accomplishments.

With warmer weather, we are taking steps to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment, including purchasing fans for increased airflow, allowing students breaks in cool zones, monitoring temperatures, and encouraging frequent hydration breaks. Please remind your child to dress in light layers and bring a refillable water bottle each day.

Looking ahead to next year, we are carefully creating class lists for next year. If you feel a particular peer relationship supports your child’s learning, please share this with us using this Class Placement Input Form before June 14. While we can’t guarantee all requests, we value your input as part of our collective commitment to building balanced and caring classrooms.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s finish strong and keep cheering on our amazing students.

Warmly,

The David Thompson School Team

From the Grade 9 Student Farewell Committee:  Potluck Sign Up

To all parents of Grade 9 students, We have planned to have a group potluck going on for all of our Farewell students and families, and we are looking for contributions. We are sending a list going out to you where you can write what food you will be bringing so there won’t be too much overlap. Please sign up on the list because we would like many options for everyone to eat and it would be great if we have plenty of food for families to celebrate the accomplishments of our Grade 9 students. Thank you!

SALTS 2026 Interest Survey

Grade 9 students at David Thompson have the unique opportunity to participate in a 5-day sailing trip aboard a tall ship in the Lower Gulf Islands off the coast of Victoria BC. We are looking to gauge interest in this opportunity in the spring of 2026.

About the trip: This is a 5 day (Monday to Friday) off-site activity where students live, eat, sleep, on a 70 ft tall ship while learning to sail in the Lower Gulf Islands near Victoria, BC.  SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society) are the service provider. Students learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and grit, while also developing a greater understanding of the natural world as they explore the Gulf Islands – marine ecosystems, local Indigenous history, environmental issues and sustainability.

The approximate cost of this trip would be $2500.  This fee covers the cost of flights, transportation, accommodations and food during the trip. You can find more information on group sails at www.salts.ca

Current grade 8 families, please fill out this survey to indicate your interest https://forms.office.com/r/mqM1rR6e5P
