Early Morning Arrival for Bussed Students

We’d like to thank families for their ongoing communication and support as we manage changes to student arrival times.

Recently, some of our students who take the bus have been arriving at school earlier than our regular supervision start time of 7:45 a.m. We understand these changes are beyond parent control, and we want to ensure every child feels cared for from the moment they arrive.

To address this, students who arrive by bus before 7:45 a.m. will now be welcomed into a supervised landing area inside the school where they can wait comfortably until regular supervision begins.

Bussing has said they are working to correct this issue and aim for a 7:50 am drop off, but we all know Calgary traffic is unpredictable. As always, thank you for partnering with us in keeping our school community safe and caring.

Attendance

It is important that you call the school if your child is going to be absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-7430 ext.1.

Please make sure to spell the student’s last name and include the date of the absence in the message.

Alternatively, you can email Ms. Shawna in the main office at: See more on our attendance page: davidthompson.cbe.ab.ca

Junior Badminton

We had so many great athletes to choose from for our badminton season! The 11 girls and 11 boys have been selected for the junior team. Practices are every Monday and Wednesday from 2:45 – 4:00 in the main gym.

The only competition we have is on May 12 at Henry Wise Wood High School from 4:00 – about 8:00.

We are looking forward to working together to build a team and improve our badminton skills.

Please email Ms.Lessard or Ms.Feke if you have questions.

Grade 6's

Grade 6 Students will go for a full day activity at Central Library and City Hall on May 21st 2025. Please contact homeroom teachers for more information or if you want to volunteer.

Letter from Dr E.P. Scarlett

Dear Next Year Lancer Families:

We cordially invite you to attend our “High School 101” presentation on Wednesday, April 23 from 5:30-7:00pm in person at Dr. E.P Scarlett High School.

The presentation will go over high school basics, course planning, and resources for student success. The main presentation will be followed up with a discussion on transitions for students with IPPs.

Counsellors will be available to support with any questions or concerns you may have about this exciting transition in your student’s educational journey.

We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Dr. E.P Scarlett Administration and Student Services

Grade 8 Art

Grade 8 art classes are going to be making miniature scenes, but we need cereal boxes to do it. We would like to ask DT families to please send any empty ones to us instead of recycling them!

Student Vote 2025: Federal Election

Students at David Thompson will be participating in the Student Vote 2025!

Social Studies teachers are choosing to opt in or not for Student Vote 2025. Teachers opting in will receive ballots, screens and a ballot box. Voting will commence next week and on April 28th, depending on the teacher's schedule.

Talk to your students about the upcoming election and help them make informed decisions.

Student vote results will be released following the official election is complete, and when Student Vote notifies us.

Always with kindness,

Kimberly Collins
