Hello Tiger Families!
What an amazing week it’s been at École David Thompson, celebrating la semaine de la Francophonie! It’s been wonderful to see our students so engaged in all the activities celebrating French language and culture. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this week such a success, especially Mme Kim for her leadership and school council for staff appreciation crepes. A great success!
Dr. Munroe had the pleasure of visiting all classrooms during their English Language Arts block this week to connect with our incredible students. What a great way to start building those connections! We’re looking forward to connecting with many of you at our upcoming family meeting on March 18th. It will be a great conversation about our School Development Plan, budget, and fees.
Thanks, take good care and as always, thank you for everything you do to support students learning at David Thompson.

Please note that there is no supervision available before this time and students will not be allowed entry to the building before this time except in cases of team practices organized for mornings.
Conferences
Conferences regarding your child’s progress at school are coming up March 20 and 21st. Due to the ongoing labor action, all conferences will be online at this time. Conferences will be set for 5-minute time slots. If you feel you need more time, you can book a maximum of two (for a 10-minute slot) instead. If you run into any issues with booking, please email the teacher, and they’ll support you in getting this sorted. As always, if you're unable to book a time, just reach out to the teacher, and they’ll do their best to arrange a meeting at a different time.
March 12 at 12:00 PM - March 19th at 6:00 PM: Conference bookings open
March 20 (4:00 PM-7:30 PM): evening conferences
March 21 (8:00 AM – 1:00PM): daytime conferences
Sports Spectators
During the ongoing CUPE strike, volleyball games will continue as scheduled, but spectators at athletic events will be limited to parents/guardians of athletes directly involved in the event, and access will be limited to the gymnasium.
Additionally, there will be absolutely no food or drinks allowed in the gymnasium—yes, this even includes coffee. We understand this may not be ideal; however, our priority is to be able to run athletics for the students while ensuring our facilities stay ready for student learning.
Thanks, and if you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Celebrating Semaine de la francophonie
The École David Thompson School community celebrated la semaine de la francophonie this week that included a number of learning opportunities that supported students growing understanding of Francophone culture around the world. We kicked off the week with Métis jigging with Lyle Donald and the Métis Dancers who had us tapping our toes. On Tuesday, finalists in DTS’s Concours d’art oratoire celebrated together with a delicious French Café experience hosted by Mme Kim and M Beaudoin. On Wednesday, we welcomed Crêpe Delicious for a sweet treat. A classic cabane à sucre was enjoyed on Thursday and we hosted our Acadia School Neighbours! What a beautiful opportunity to connect. All week long, we celebrated language and culture by learning new expressions (both Québécois and French!) and many activities to celebrate French language and culture around the world. We can’t wait to celebrate together! Many thanks to School Council and parent volunteers for their generous support of this event! We couldn’t do it without you!
School Engagement Parent/Guardian Meeting
A quick reminder about our Virtual School Planning Meeting on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:00 PM. We’ll be sharing key information about our School Development Plan, budget, and fees, and we’d love to hear your feedback. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) who email kmmunore@cbe.ab.ca and request will receive a link next week. If you're planning to attend, please email know by the end of the day on Wednesday, March 12.
