Hello Tiger Families!
Spring is in full bloom and so is the life of our school community!
This week, our Late French Immersion students explored the rich history of the Rouleauville district. Meaningful learning experiences like this wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our dedicated staff and generous parent volunteers, and we thank you for bringing these opportunities to life!
A heartfelt thanks as well to everyone who attended the Band and Eastern Canada parent meetings your presence and participation help strengthen our shared vision for student success. Looking ahead, our next School Council meeting takes place on Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons. We’ll be discussing upcoming events, gathering community feedback, and reviewing our new security system. Your voice matters in shaping our school’s future, and we hope to see you there.
As assessment season approaches, here’s a helpful tip for families: establish a consistent evening routine with short, focused study sessions. Research shows that spacing study over time improves retention and reduces anxiety (Dunlosky et al., 2013, "Improving Students’ Learning with Effective Learning Techniques").
Let’s continue growing together this season!
Sincerely,
Karena Munroe, EdD
Principal, David Thompson School

School Entry
David Thompson School’s opening bell is at 8:00 am. Doors will be unlocked to allow school entry beginning at 7:45. Please note that there is no supervision available before this time and students will not be allowed entry to the building before this time except in cases of team practices.
French Learning Tip
You’ve probably heard that listening to audiobooks, songs, and movies in French can help language learning, but here is another idea; try playing your favorite board games in French! Games like French Scrabble Junior are fun ways to build vocabulary together at home. No pressure to perfect pronunciation, just enjoy the words and the play.
Letter from Dr E.P. Scarlett
Dear Next Year Lancer Families:
We cordially invite you to attend our “High School 101” presentation on Wednesday, April 23 from 5:30-7:00pm in person at Dr. E.P Scarlett High School.
The presentation will go over high school basics, course planning, and resources for student success. The main presentation will be followed up with a discussion on transitions for students with IPPs.
Counsellors will be available to support with any questions or concerns you may have about this exciting transition in your student’s educational journey.
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Dr. E.P Scarlett Administration and Student Services
Grade 8 Art
Grade 8 art classes are going to be making miniature scenes, but we need cereal boxes to do it. We would like to ask DT families to please send any empty ones to us instead of recycling them!
Rouleauville:
Students experienced the rich Francophone history that exists in our city of Calgary by exploring Rouleauville. Students engaged in this opportunity to experience Francophone history and culture outside of the classroom, and we developed a deeper appreciation for our city. Students also had the opportunity to stop in a local café, where the owner is a graduate of the Late French Immersion program himself! Students ordered a French pastry and practiced ordering food in French!
