Hello Tiger Families!

We hope your Spring Break was restful and refreshing! It’s been a great first week back at David Thompson with lots of energy and activity in the building.

This week, our band students have been busy at Band Camp, and Tiger Buzz was back with more student-led fun and leadership. Our Grade 7 and 8 French students are preparing for an upcoming trip to Rouleauville—the historic French quarter of Calgary—which ties in beautifully with their language and cultural learning. Grade 9s are also heading out soon to Carburn Park for a cross-curricular, place-based learning experience that brings together science, phys-ed, and wellness in a real-world setting.

We’re also happy to share that with the CUPE strike resolved, after-school activities like badminton are back up and running!

French Learning Tip

You’ve probably heard that listening to audiobooks, songs, and movies in French can help language learning, but here is another idea; try playing your favorite board games in French! Games like French Scrabble Junior are fun ways to build vocabulary together at home. No pressure to perfect pronunciation, just enjoy the words and the play.

Badminton Season Update

Badminton Senior team

The season started, and we are finalizing our team of 22 players. We want to thank all the students who came to the tryouts. We had about 80 students for only 22 positions, 11 girls and boys from grades 8 and 9. It was not easy for the coach to make the cuts, and we hope that if you did not make it, you will try again next year, either at DT or High school.

Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14h45 to 16h00. Please make sure that players have a ride home on time after.

Message from E.P. Scarlett:

Dear Next Year Lancer Families:

We cordially invite you to attend our “High School 101” presentation on Wednesday, April 23 from 5:30-7:00pm in person at Dr. E.P Scarlett High School.

The presentation will go over high school basics, course planning, and resources for student success. The main presentation will be followed up with a discussion on transitions for students with IPPs.

Counsellors will be available to support with any questions or concerns you may have about this exciting transition in your student’s educational journey.

We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Dr. E.P Scarlett Administration and Student Services
