Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Fall/Winter Series

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in a pre-recorded and live online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and Recovery Alberta and will explore topics such as Peer Pressure, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens, and navigating Parent-Teen relationships. Acting on feedback from participants who joined us during our live online sessions over the past two years, moving forward we invite all guardians and parents to listen to the pre-recorded or live sessions at their convenience.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found has grown! We would love to reconnect students with their lost items. Please remind your child to check for anything they may be missing! Items left over on November 1 will be donated.

Take Our Kids to Work Day - Grade 9

Take Our Kids to Work Day is Nov 6, 2024 for Grade 9 students. A form was sent home to families of Grade 9 students with further instructions and a form to complete and return to school. Those students who opt to remain at school will participate in related workshops led by DTS staff. Questions or concerns may be directed to Ben Beaudoin at bbbeaudoin@cbe.ab.ca.

Remembrance Day

David Thompson School will be holding Remembrance Day ceremonies in the main gym on November 7.  Families are invited to participate.  If you serve in the military or are a member of the police, paramedics, or firefighters and wish to lay a wreath, please contact M Beaudoin at bbbeaudoin@cbe.ab.ca.   The assembly for grades 5, 6 and 7 will begin at approximately 9:00am.  The ceremony for grades 8 and 9 will take place at 10:00am.

System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP)

The Calgary Board of Education produces the Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) report every spring. This report helps identify schools facing student accommodation challenges, such as high enrolment pressure, a decline in enrolment, or a change in the demographics of students at the school. The solution to these challenges may affect one or more schools and needs careful consideration. David Thompson School has been identified in the CBE’s 2024-27 SSAP.

In developing the SSAP each year, CBE reviews current enrolment trends, demographic changes, community growth or decline, birth data, and other relevant factors to understand educational opportunities for students based on where they live.

Please use this link to read the full letter from the Director of Planning.

We shared information about the SSAP at our school council meeting on October 16 and answered questions.  You can view detailed information on the corporate website here.
