Winter Solstice Message

As we prepare to welcome the winter break, we want to take a moment to recognize the global tapestry of traditions celebrated during this season. The Winter Solstice holds profound significance around the world, inspiring a diversity of customs and connections.

From the festive lights and carols of Christmas to the family-centered observances of Dong Zhi, and from the candles of Hanukkah to the principles of Kwanzaa, each tradition enriches the spirit of this time. Celebrations like Inti Raymi in the Andes, Toji in Japan, and the deeply rooted practices of Indigenous peoples honoring the rhythm of nature and the land also remind us of our shared humanity.

This season, let us embrace the unity in our diversity and cherish the common values of togetherness, gratitude, and hope that these celebrations embody.

On behalf of all the staff at David Thompson School, we wish you a joyful, peaceful, and safe holiday season. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year, refreshed and ready for the opportunities ahead.

Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Fall/Winter Series

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in a pre-recorded and live online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and Recovery Alberta and will explore topics such as Peer Pressure, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens, and navigating Parent-Teen relationships. Acting on feedback from participants who joined us during our live online sessions over the past two years, moving forward we invite all guardians and parents to listen to the pre-recorded or live sessions at their convenience.
