Dear David Thompson Families,

As the 2024–25 school year wraps up and summer sun starts to show its face, I want to pause and say thank you. These final weeks have been full of celebration, learning, field trips, farewells, and community spirit. Whether you're looking forward to more outdoor time, or just a slower pace with family and friends, I hope the break brings you time to rest, laugh, and connect.

Thank Yous

We would like to recognize our entire school community for their continued commitment to excellence:

To our dedicated staff, thank you for everything you've done to make David Thompson a safe, welcoming, and joyful place to learn. Your creativity, care, and commitment to student success is felt in every hallway and classroom. Thank you for all the work you put in every day, you have gone above and beyond.

To our families, thank you for your partnership. Your support, trust, and encouragement mean the world to us. We are grateful for the ways you lift us up and work with us in support of your children’s growth.

And last but not least, to our students, you are the reason we do this work. You’ve shown resilience, curiosity, humour, and heart. We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished. To our Grade 9s congratulations! We send you off to high school with pride and confidence. You are ready. We look forward to meeting our new students joining us from Sundance, Acadia and Sam Livingston alongside our families who have moved into the community. We would also like to wish all students from Grade 5-8 who are leaving David Thompson all the best at their new school, whether it be another school in Calgary or elsewhere.

Farewells and Welcomes

As with every school year, we say good bye to some staff and welcome new faces to the team. We are incredibly grateful to those who are moving on for the legacy they leave and wish them nothing but success in their next chapters. This year we say farewell to Mrs Babe Collis who will be joining the very fortunate school Dr. George Stanley in the Fall. We also say goodbye to several wonderful staff who were covering leaves or offering extra support this year. Mme El Ouali, Mme Laaouad, Ms Ivison, Mme Heger-Dorantes, Ms Singh, Mr Cohan, we cannot thank you enough for your commitment to students this year, you will be greatly missed, and we wish you all the best in your continued work as educators. We also say good bye to some beloved support staff Ms Semos and Ms Karine. Thank you for supporting tirelessly this year, you have been integral to the success of our students and we hope to see you again. Always remember once a David Thompson Tiger always a David Thompson Tiger!

We’re looking forward to seeing them light up our hallways once again!

Summer Ideas

To keep minds and bodies active this summer, consider daily reading, time in nature, family games, a creative project, or simply checking in with one another. Wellness and learning go hand in hand.
