We ask students to use good judgement in considering what to wear for school. We ask that families have conversations to determine what falls within the bounds of appropriate for middle school when purchasing school attire.
Students should be attired in a manner appropriate for their academic environments and suitable for studies in wood shop, foods, physical education and science where unique hazards exist. Students who do not follow the recommended dress guidelines may be asked to change after their parents have been contacted.
Examples of inappropriate clothing may include (but are not limited to):
- Promote illegal or inappropriate behaviour (marijuana, alcohol, pornography, hate speech, advocating violence or criminal acts, etc.)
- Visible undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded)
- Excessive fragrance (we have several students and staff with scent allergies)
- Shoes that mark the floor
Please note that outdoor clothing needs to be left in lockers during instructional hours. For security, safety, and respectfulness, it is expected that all hats (including hoods) will be removed in assemblies, during a lockdown, during the singing of "Oh Canada" and during Remembrance Day Assemblies.
In accordance with CBE Administrative Regulation 6010, decisions as to what constitutes acceptable clothing are made at the discretion of school administration. Students with excessively revealing or other unacceptable attire may be required to change clothing, be kept in the office area, or be sent home in order to dress appropriately.
Physical Education
- Changing for PE is optional. Students must wear clothes that they will be comfortable moving and being active in.
- Comfort and hygiene are the primary benefits to changing for PE class. Students who wish to change for PE can speak with their PE teacher to arrange a space, as the locker rooms are unavailable.
- If students want, school t-shirts and shorts available for purchase.
- Teachers may ask the students to change if clothing prevents full participation. Deodorant is recommended and can be kept in lockers.
- Students are required to have proper shoes to wear for PE. Running shoes with non-marking soles and for safety, loosely tied skater shoes, puma style shoes, sandals, flats, crocs, or heels are not permitted.
