École David Thompson Weekly Update | A Community of Excellence
Weekly Update – Friday May 22 | Message de la semaine – vendredi 22 mai
Quote: Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. – Robert Collier
Hello Tiger Families!
The warm weather and busy energy of spring are definitely here at David Thompson! This week our Grade 7 Band students represented our school beautifully at Festival, showing confidence, teamwork, and the courage it takes to perform in front of others.
Grade 5 students enjoyed learning outdoors at Carburn Park, making connections between classroom learning and the natural world around them. In PE, SportHub introduced students to fencing, and it was wonderful to see students embracing something new with such enthusiasm.
This week also marked the beginning of PAT season, and our students approached their exams with great confidence and focus. We continue reminding them that these assessments are just one opportunity to show what they know. Effort, perseverance, and growth matter most. A simple way to support learning at home right now is to encourage short study sessions rather than cramming. Reviewing notes for even 15 to 20 minutes a night, getting enough sleep, and talking through learning out loud can make a real difference in confidence and retention.
Finally, a huge compliment to our students and staff. We completed our final lockdown drill this week, and our resource officers shared that it was one of the best they have ever seen at David Thompson. Students responded calmly, seriously, and responsibly, and staff handled the drill with care and professionalism. We are grateful for the way our community continues to prioritize safety and looking out for one another.
As always, thank you for being such an important part of the David Thompson community. Together, we continue building the kind of school we all want to learn in.
Merci et bonne fin de semaine,
The David Thompson School Team

Happenings
Provincial Achievement Test Attendance
As we head into PAT season, we want to make sure every student is safe and accounted for each day. If your child will be away from school after completing their PATs, please let the office know you will be excusing them by completing the form linked below. This helps us plan ahead and keep track of where students are expected to be.
To support a smooth and calm office environment, we ask that families use the form in advance rather than having students request last minute permission at the office. We also want to avoid students signing out and returning later for the bus. If your child signs out after their exam, they are expected to remain off school property for the rest of the day, just as they would with any regular sign-out.
Please note that students with unexcused absences following their PATs may not be eligible to attend the year-end Callaway Park field trip.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep this time of year organized and safe for everyone.
Complete link here.
Track & Field Team
Thank you to everyone who showed such great school spirit and tried out for the Track & Field teams! Congratulations to all athletes who made the team! Team members were given two packages to bring home. Please bring back the signed Acknowledgement of Risk forms. We will need parent volunteers to make this event happen. If you are able to volunteer for the whole day or even a few hours, please complete the volunteer page on the back of the booklet and we will reach out to you.
Bottle Drive Fundraiser
David Thompson School is hosting a bottle drive to help fundraise this year’s Grade 9 Farewell! Families are invited to support by dropping off their bottles at either the Chinook Bottle Depot or the South Pointe Bottle Depot. Simply let the depot know you are donating to “DT School Graduation Committee”, and the funds will go directly toward the farewell planning committee. The bottle drive is running now until May 25. Thank you for helping make this a memorable celebration for our Grade 9 students!
