Hello Tiger Families!
As we mark March 8th, International Women’s Day, it is a beautiful moment to pause and reflect on the women in our lives, the mothers, grandmothers, teachers, mentors, and friends who have shaped who we are and how we show up in the world. Their influence reminds us that learning and love are deeply connected. A warm thank you to everyone who joined us at School Council this week. Your presence and partnership mean so much to our community. We were also pleased to have Belcanfran visit to share details about their France and Canada student exchange program one final time. If your family is interested in this incredible 11-week opportunity, you can find more information at www.belcanfran.com, reach out at belcanfran@gmail.com, or call 403-472-8742.
This week our students reminded us what it looks like when young people step into their potential. Our volleyball teams competed with heart, and our band students performed at the Jack Singer Concert Hall as part of Winds from the South. We are very proud of Ms. McMorran's art students, whose work will be on display at the CBE Education Centre downtown next week. If you have a chance to visit, please do. Spirit Week is coming up on March 16th. Scroll down to check the dates and encourage your kids to dress up. School spirit is one of those small things that adds to something big.
One of the most meaningful ways families can support learning at home is through the practice of the fundamentals. Basic math facts, reading, writing, and speaking are skills that grow through repetition and encouragement. When you ask your child to respond in full sentences at home, you are reinforcing the same habits our teachers are building every day through our school-wide NLA professional learning focus. Try asking your child to tell you about their day using a complete sentence, read aloud for ten minutes, or practice math multiplication facts on days they don’t bring official homework home. Daily homework habits build confident learners over time.
We are so grateful for this community and for the partnership that makes David Thompson such a special place. Thank you for everything you do alongside us. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!
Warmly,
The David Thompson School Team

Conference Booking Invitations 10 minutes
We are looking forward to school conferences, which are scheduled for Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20.
We will be using a hybrid model as follows:
Date and Time | Format and Location |
Thursday, March 19 4:00-8:00pm | In-Person Conferences Grades 5 and 6 in the learning commons Grades 7 – 9 in the main gym Options & PE in the Atrium |
Friday, March 20 9:00-1:00pm | Online Conferences (Microsoft Teams)
|
To accommodate as many families as possible, each session is scheduled for 10 minutes; if, however, you feel you need additional time, you are welcome to book two sessions back-to-back (20 minutes). When booking conferences, please allow adequate time to move (physically or virtually) from one booking to the next. The Conference Manager will open at 12:00pm on March 11th and will close at 6:00pm on March 18th. To book conferences, please log into your MyCBE account and follow these steps:
- Click on “Book and Manage Meeting Times”
- Select “Book a Conference”
After booking, you will receive an email confirmation. For sessions booked on Friday, the email will contain a Microsoft Teams link. Additionally, your conference details will appear in your MyCBE account. We recommend adding these to your email calendar to keep track of meeting times and links (if applicable).
School conferences are an opportunity to engage in conversation about your child’s learning. Parents/guardians, students, and teachers are able to connect and communicate openly about student learning, especially with respect to areas of strength and areas of growth. They help build and sustain respectful relationships that allow both parties to share information and develop strategies to support student success. Prior to conferences, take time with your child(ren) to review PowerSchool for updated grades and D2L for course content and topics to support a focused and informed discussion. If possible, please ensure your child is present for the conferences as their voice is vital to the steps necessary for their own improvement and success.

High School Transfers Deadline:
For the 2026-2027 school year, the CBE has confirmed that the online transfer request form for students seeking a specific program (like IB or AP) or a specific sequence of courses is available during the following window: February 9 until March 15. Learn more about High School transfer here.
Yoga Update
- Date: Mondays, until March Spring Break
- Time: 2:45pm-4:00pm
- Location: Drama Room
We are offering this for two days due to availability. Since drama rooms often have specialized flooring or props, you might want to remind your students to bring their own mats, so they aren't sliding around on bare floor. If they don’t have a mat, we have extras.
